Rene Descartes was a drunken fart

"Good Sense is, of all things among men, the most equally distributed; for every one thinks himself so abundantly provided with it, that those even who are the most difficult to satisfy in everything else, do not usually desire a larger measure of this quality than they already possess.""

At my work, and with ex-coworkers who are now friends, we have a constant war going. Mac vs. PC. We bait each other all the time, the e-mail threads grow into the double digits, with fervent opinions and sarcastic remarks. But really, people are just jealous of my iPhone. Tonight, while eating dinner at the bar ( at Chili's, across from my hotel in San Diego ), by the way, when you go out to eat alone, where do you sit? I personally like sitting at the bar, people are friendly and there are always sports on TV, I discovered BOOKS on the iPhone. I mean, you pay 99 cents for the ENTIRE Pride & Prejudice!! (It is full of classic lines, gotta have it.). They also have Shakespeare, Thomas Payne's "Common Sense"...

I am a word junkie. Love reading, love poetry, love the structure of words & sentences. Entire books. In the palm of your hand. At your fingertips. Whenever you want them. Woah.

Polishing your silver is maybe a little Yoga like. Check out those ninja knives. They're sparkly. Tired, tired, tired. So much work. Uncertainty somehow brings out nesting tendencies. The "new" kitchen table now holds a teeny sewing corner. It's nice.

But I'm Allright

It's been a crafty weekend. Maybe some wine, and good food, and a tiny bit of Rockband, but mostly very crafty. And it's been nice and fun.

Used the pattern from Lotta Jansdotter's book "Simple Sewing" for the oven mitt. Prototype #1, with some Urban Outfitters funky fabric. Machine quilted the oven mitt, simply following the pattern. It's really too thin to be used with heat. Introducing Prototype #2.

Found some medium-weight cotton (which the book recommends to begin with, following directions has never been my strong point), also did two layers of batting, one wool, one cotton.

Hand quilted both sides, following pattern, basically improvising. It worked out well when the power went out for a couple of hours too, even without TV. After re-joining the 21st century and getting cable after four months of no TV, what did I miss the most? Sports. Not sure I could live without ESPN again.

It fits my hand perfectly, and the batting is the right thickness now. It's a great and quick project to finish. Have some slight modifications planned for Prototype #3, alittle wider in the base for easy slip-on or off, as well as a loop to hang it from. The hand quilting was probably the most fun part of the entire project.

In preparation for football season, it was time to pick up This Year's advent calendar (it looks an aweful lot like the one from last year, huh?) . It should be finished in time. This time.

A New Playlist

It doesn't necessarily signify new beginnings, but certainly changes. And sometimes there is so much going on you have very little to say.

Picking colors is the fun part. Winging it. Guessing. Impulse buying.

What colors are missing?

Arisaig beginnings. KnitPicks lace weight Gloss yarn. 2's for ribbing, 3's for lace (and I am a very very loose knitter). The couple next to me on the plane between SAN and SFO commented on how I got the knitting needles past the TSA. Even made them feel how pointy the needles were. And we all know Knitpicks options are seriously pointy. They were impressed. Commuting down there again next week. It's great for knitting project progress if anything.

Not much Rockband lately, other things on my mind, did however download the entire the Who album. And did you hear Rockband2 is coming out? OMG. The songs. Lookie what else came out this week. We made good on the deal.

I can resist anything

but

the temptation from you

But I'd rather walk alone

than chase you around

I'd rather follow myself

than let you

drag me on down

Basic Pasta (from Jilly's fab pasta book):

Wine (in the cooks, hello, it's the Primary Ingredient in every recipe! Whites today, semillion, chardonnay, white riesling, ehm...)

1.5 cups of flour

2 large FRESH eggs

Three batches. (Don't do one big batch, it is too unwieldy).

Filling:

One tub of Ricotta (pint sized)

Wilted chopped spinach

1 large FRESH egg

1/2-2/3 cups of shredded parmesan

S&P to your hearts content

Crew:

Patient friends to make a gazillion tortellinis. While giving you the bird (wrapped in a tortellini. The're inventive my friends.)

Leftovers:

Freeze those suckers. Just 3-4 minutes in boiling water straight from the freezer. Absolutely amazing. Was it unclear how incredibly fresh and fabulous the tortellinis were?

Day 2:

Eat them again with organic snap peas from Veggie Box.

There's gold in those mason jars. They traveled far. Yum. I sorta did too. Moved 6000 miles for love; 250 miles for work. Hrm. Get to stay another 10 years. And play more Rockband. Am I allowed to be alittle smug that TWO sets of friends now have invested in the best game in the world? I think so.

Of course Ben.
